Hawke's Bay Orchestral Society Information

Instrumental Classes Class tuition is available for primary pupils up to and including age 12 for violin, cello, flute and clarinet. Violins, cellos, flutes and clarinets can be hired. Because of demand for places and availability of instruments, entry to some of the classes may be restricted. Class times are arranged by individual tutors.

If you are learning an instrument in one of our classes, there is an expectation that you will move into the Training Orchestra when your tutor feels you are ready.

No audition is needed: ask your Tutor if they think you are ready to join.

HB Youth Orchestra Conductor: Susan Melville - phone 877 7764 The Youth Orchestra is for more advanced players, introducing them to the challenges of symphonic repertoire. Our programme includes formal and informal performances, a favourite being the December outdoor concert at Keirunga Gardens in conjunction with Keirunga Homestead Theatre.

In recent years the orchestra has made regular trips to Wellington and one to Rotorua and has hosted exchanges with the Long Island Youth Orchestra, the Wellington Youth Sinfonietta and young musicians from Ferny Grove High School and St Peter's Lutheran College in Brisbane.

Rehearsals at Mayfair School on Saturdays 8.30am - 10.30am.

Fees for 2011

Instrumental tuition $150.00 p.a.
Training Orchestra $ 85.00 p.a.
Youth Orchestra $100.00 p.a.

Family Discounts (for Orchestras only)

The first family member pays full price, the second family member receives a $20.00 discount off the fees and the third family member receives a $40.00 discount off the fees. To receive this discount, your account must be paid by the 20th of the month following receipt of account.

A discount of $5.00 is available if paid by the 20th of the month following receipt of account.

Instrument Hire & Bond

Violin, Clarinet, Flute, Viola, Trumpet
$60.00 p.a. ($80.00 Private Hire).
Cello, Horn, Euphonium, Tuba
$80.00 p.a. ($100.00 Private Hire).

A bond of $30.00 ($50.00 private Hire) is to be paid for any instrument hired and is refunded upon return in good condition.
